What is the Rule of 72?
Divide 72 by your interest rate and you get the exact number of years it takes your money to double. At 2%, your money doubles every 36 years. At 12%, every 6 years. The bank advertises safety — they don't advertise this formula, because if their clients knew it, they'd ask harder questions.
